Argonne authors have no legal authority to enter into contracts about copyright of works created in the course of their Argonne employment. If an author signs a copyright transfer agreement, he or she assumes the inherent legal risks. The Publications Clearance Office has the delegated authority to assert and transfer copyrights in Argonne-created journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, and any other items being submitted to external publishers.
Argonne employees performing work for hire for external publishers should contact the Legal Department at ext. 2-5951 for guidance if the external publisher asks them to sign any type of contract or agreement.
